What Control Do You Really Have Over Your Destiny?

How do you handle a “what if” situation? What control do you really have over your destiny? For example, what if that guy broadsided you instead of going up on the grass, or what if that candle you left burning destroyed your home? Do you ever have any nearlys in your life? How do you handle them?

Having a brush with tragedy is very jarring. It does involve seeing your life flash before your eyes. How could it not? After the tragedy is avoided, your body relaxes, and most people say, “Thank you, God.” Have you been there? Did your mind flash to a time you had a nearly? It’s terrifying.

What if my breast cancer killed me? I wish I could say that was a thought I never had, but that’s not true. Having had the Sepsis incident and breast cancer, dying was a real possibility. Hence, I think about that way too often. Recurrence is another thing I think about all.the.time.

Control is Tricky In Regards to Destiny

Why do I have to think about events that have yet to occur? Because I am human, and I have triggers. When a nearly happens, my thoughts automatically travel to the “what if” scenarios. I stress about them and wonder if there was anything I could have done to prevent the possible nearly.

Of course, there is no way to prepare for a nearly just like there is no way to prepare for a sudden life-altering event. They happen without reason.

When something horrible happens, we often think, “If only I had done this or that.” “If only I had blown the candle out before I left home.” “If only I had not taken the shortcut and driven down Florence Road instead of Daisy.” The reality is that the event happened, and all of the “if only’s” you can think of do not matter one bit.

Can You Prepare for Your Destiny

So, why do we feel guilty about what occurred? Do we have the power to change fate? Aside from intentionally committing suicide (when someone takes complete control), I believe fate plays a huge role in our life. Unfortunately, there is no way to prepare for it. Or is there?

Global entrepreneur and self-help guru Tony Robbins thinks you can control your fate/destiny. He believes the way to accomplish this is by engaging in the following eight steps:

  • Accept reality
  • Question your beliefs
  • Let go of the past
  • Explore your relationships
  • Reveal your driving force
  • Face your fears
  • Design your life
  • Reset your focus

He goes into detail for each step in this article: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/mind-meaning/control-your-destiny/. There are links in the article that dive deeper into some of his recommendations. You should click the link and read it. I found it informative and thought-provoking.

Control Your Mindset

Tony Robbins focuses on how you can control your destiny by viewing fate as an opportunity. He is a massive proponent of mindset shifting. For example, when you wake up in the morning, change your thinking to “I get to” instead of “I have to.”

It sounds pretty simple, but it’s not that easy. However, it does work. I have been doing this for a few weeks and feel a positive change. Every health article says you need to drink lots of water daily. As most of you know, I drink lots of Diet Coke. Not good.

So, I bought myself a new water bottle with fun sayings on it. When I pick it up, I say, “I get to drink this delicious water today!” At first, it seemed corny; however, my body feels better, so I mean it when I say it now.

Do You Practice Routines?

I saw a post on Instagram touting how important it is to set up your mornings. Your early morning activities impact your entire day. If you wake up and hit the snooze five times, you will have to rush to get to work on time. You will most likely grab some fast food breakfast that you down quickly at your desk before dashing into your meeting seven minutes late. You will continue to rush to catch up the entire day by starting late.

Instead, why not get up ten minutes earlier without hitting the snooze? You can leisurely have a cup of coffee/tea and eat something healthy for breakfast before heading into the office. Your day will start with a much better mindset, and no stress will be involved. Doesn’t that sound preferable?

Simple Shifts Make a Big Difference

Such a logical suggestion. It makes sense that what you do in the morning sets your tone for the day. Do you follow a morning routine? What happens if you don’t? I am curious to know how many readers follow routines. I was proud of not having a routine and just winging it—silly me. Having a routine has positively changed my mindset. My productivity has increased, and I am genuinely happier.

Part of my morning routine now includes affirmations. My confidence has increased since I have been saying this one out loud every day:

I am living a purposeful life despite my challenges. By focusing on outwitting life every day I remain true to my beliefs and set an example of hope for others.

I trust that was not too much information to expose, lol.

Steer Clear of Negativity

I heard an interview with the actress Taraj P. Henson last week, and she said something that immediately made me think, that’s a great way to outwit life! She said, “I am a positive person. I do not have time for negative people in my space. They can take themselves and their big black cloud over there and leave me alone.” I loved this!

Do you know any negative people? They always seem to have that big black cloud over them. The more positivity you bring into your life, the harder it will become to stay social with that person. As I used to tell my sales teams in my corporate life, “Either get on the bus or get under it because we are moving in a positive direction.” Negative people bring you down, and I have no time for that either. Equally important is surrounding yourself with positive people, but that’s a post for another day. (Tony Robbins touches on negativity in the article I linked above.)

Please share any affirmations you recite in the comment section below. And, as usual, kindly leave a comment if I have said anything that resonated with you today.

    Loretta,
The article is making me think a lot this morning because when I do not follow my normal routine in the morning my day is not the same. Yesterday, I had an early appointment so I did not start do my normal routine and I did not feel normal all day. Sometime I like to do things different but I need to follow my routine on a daily basis
