What are your top five favorite springtime activities? There is so much to do in spring that it’s hard to identify your favorite five activities. One thing is sure – it is time to get outside!
Let’s go ahead and shake off winter. Yes, there still may be a few cooler days coming, but the weather is getting warmer. Colorful plants are in front of every grocery store, and the nurseries are hopping! Have you bought a new pair of garden gloves yet?
Digging in the dirt is not one of my favorite activities. I am more of a “potter” kind of gal. Give me some new potting soil, flowering plants, and a few pretty pots to put them in, and I’ll make the backyard deck look very inviting!
Isn’t this a great list of things to do this spring? Everyone I randomly asked this question replied, “take a walk,” as their number one answer. We all want to get outside!
Are your five favorites listed? Only some of mine are.
It is nice to take a stroll around the neighborhood. I like seeing what homes are up for sale and what curb appeal the other houses have. I am always looking for ideas for our house!
Having dinner on the beach is one of my all-time favorite things. We usually get sandwiches or a bucket of chicken. The food doesn’t matter. I love sitting in a chair and looking at the ocean at that time of day. It is very soothing – the hubby and I need to do it soon!
Reading the paper and drinking tea outside calls to me; I love the fresh air and listening to the birds’ chirp. I even like hearing the lawnmowers because it reminds me that summer is coming soon.
Who doesn’t love a farmer’s market or craft fair? I love to mosey along doing taste tests, getting fresh spring vegetables, and picking up some homemade jams—ditto for a craft fair. Shopping outside feels good!
Lastly, I love taking a ride east out on the north fork of Long Island. I will do it any season, but spring is charming in that area. Late spring is the perfect time to visit the Lavender Farm in East Marion. You literally walk through lavender fields, and the smell is fantastic! https://lavenderbythebay.com/
While you are out that way, stop and walk around Orient Point State Park. https://parks.ny.gov/parks/orientbeach. It is situated right on the water, and it is beautiful. There are picnic areas and benches plus a playground for the kids. I recommend you also visit The Candyman for delicious homemade chocolate – yum!
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my absolute favorite springtime event – Opening day at Citifield! Yes, I am a fanatic Mets fan. I have followed them since they won the ’69 World Series. My mom and dad were both fans, so the games were on T.V. at home all the time.
My girlfriends and I had season tickets in 1986. Being at the ’86 World Series was one of the greatest thrills of my youth. This Friday afternoon, our family will be at Citifield yet again. It’s what spring is all about for us Rederscheid’s! Let’s Go Mets!
Passover begins this Friday evening, and Sunday is Easter Sunday. Both holidays signal the unofficial beginning of spring, too. I hope you all have plans to celebrate with your family. Fingers crossed, the weather cooperates!
Happy spring, and play ball!

We have absolutely heard and seen the ice cream truck on our block…last week! I love your list. My favorite sign of spring is seeing my lilac tree begin to bloom, and daylight til 7:30 pm. Walks on the beach, al fresco dining and baseball. 💙🧡
