It’s Time To Let Go of Summer and Welcome Sweater Weather

It’s difficult to accept that the warm weather is nearly over, but it is. That means it’s time to let go of summer and welcome sweater weather.

Wasn’t it last week we took our annual trip to Lowe’s to get flowers and greenery for the outside? We bought some nice new pots this year and threw out our old ones.

My husband does the planting, but I am in charge of watering and keeping the plants thriving. I am so happy that I did a good job this year. I definitely do not have a green thumb! Thankfully, I didn’t kill them all like I usually do.

I always try and nicely arrange the backyard for entertaining. (I may watch a little too much HGTV.) Entertaining is something I love to do. This year, we only entertained once! We did, however, do a lot of backyarding and enjoyed all the ambiance ourselves.

Is it just me, or does there never seem to be enough weekends in the summer? Why does the weather have to be so challenging?

In July, I did a lot of pool floating which I thoroughly enjoyed. August seemed to rain too much, so I didn’t get in the pool as often. Still, I love having a pool!

The hubster and I made it to the beach more times this year than last. We are part of the Town of Oyster Bay, and the beach is gorgeous. We would go early and leave around lunchtime when the beach was getting crowded. I loved it!

Did you have a nice Summer? Was it a go-with-the-flow few months, or did you try and live intentionally?

When I really take the time to reflect upon it, it was a pretty great summer. My weekends were not clogged with chores, and I definitely relaxed. So, the house wasn’t pristine, but I have some great memories.

And here we are, transitioning into Fall. Or, as I like to call it, sweater weather!

Do you have any fall plans?

While I do not have anything specific on the calendar, here’s my list of things I would like to do.

2021 Fall Activities Wishlist

  • Do a couple of takeout dinners on the beach before the weather gets too chilly
  • Take a ride upstate just to look at the fall foliage
  • Take a walk over the Hudson Bridge
  • Go apple picking
  • Go to a football game
  • Have friends over to watch the NY Jets or NY Giants game
  • Decorate our home with fall decor
  • DIY our nightstands
  • Walk the Jones Beach Boardwalk
  • Eat lunch in the car while looking at the ocean at Robert Moses State Park
  • Be home to give candy to trick or treaters
  • Eat a caramel apple
  • Do some crafts
  • Use our backyard fire pit (make smores)
  • Go on a seal watching tour
  • Make pumpkin bread

What’s on your list? Do you think I can do all these things? I am certainly going to try. I’ve learned that it takes effort to continually be outwitting life. Every time I set a goal and do something intentional or different, I feel I am adding to my outwitting life journey.

The pumpkins are coming!
Fall is just around the corner.

I used to let the seasons come and go with no great planning. My life was always “busy,” and I believed I didn’t have time to do half the things I wanted to do.

My experience with breast cancer revealed to me that I was not taking control of my life or setting priorities. I was letting life happen to me. I am so grateful I figured out that there are better ways to live, and I grabbed onto my own steering wheel and took charge.

I create memories now. I have fun doing the things I have always wanted to do but never seemed to find the time.

The seasons are not the only things capable of changing. You are capable of change. What are your plans for Fall? Are you guilty of letting life happen to you, or do you take control? Let me know in a comment below.

    Hey Loretta!

Being type A, and you know that BTW, I had to learn to go with the flow. It is so much easier now that I only answer to myself and those I love. Do going with the flow has been a healthy thing to do for me. Learning to let go gave me the time to really focus on the things in life I now have time for. Learning to not feel guilty for things I cant get to is gone. Should I feel selfish?

No, you should not feel selfish! It is so freeing to do only the things that are important to you. I am very happy for you! Thanks so much for the comment. Miss you.
