How to Make Your Life More Fuchsia Than Beige

Are you living life as a steady neutral or a bold pink? Are You interested in making your life more fuchsia than beige? Then you will need to start taking risks.

When was the last time you took a risk? If you have to think hard to recall, you are living a beige life. There’s nothing wrong with beige lives. Except that they are colorless. Wouldn’t you rather live a bold, pink life?

More Fuchsia Sounds Way More Fun

Putting it simply, beige is boring, and fuchsia is exciting (in my opinion). I prefer to be fuchsia as I associate this color with fully living life. It’s bold, pretty, and noticeable. It takes a specific type of woman to pull off a fuchsia dress. Heads turn when she enters a room. The same is true of men. Not many men wear fuchsia shirts or ties, but whenever I see someone that does, I am immediately drawn to them. Bold and exciting is the type of life I envision for myself. So, anyone that wears fuchsia is my people!

Fuchsia!

According to the online design platform, Canva, “In color psychology, fuchsia is believed to inspire assurance and assertiveness.” Canva also states, “Fuchsia’s bright, bold appearance is energizing and uplifting. It’s likely to be considered a fun and even provocative shade.”

I understand that not everyone wants to be the center of attention. Before breast cancer, I tended to be an attention grabber. However, now I am content with being mysterious and wearing fuchsia without making a grand entrance. My personality has mellowed, yet I still want to wear pink and enjoy all that entails. Does that make sense?

Beige is Too Steady for Me

When I think of beige people, I envision regular, logical folks that have their stuff together. They plan and budget and have few surprises in their life. Truthfully, there are plenty of days I yearn to be like them. But that never lasts long.

My career was in sales. Once I aspired to management, I would tell my staff, “The thrill is never knowing if you’ll be able to pay your mortgage.” I was addicted to my adrenaline rush when I closed a big sale and knew I’d be getting a whopping commission check. It kept me motivated or desperate, depending on which way you wanted to look at it. I made an excellent living from it until, you know, the Big C entered the picture. I’m not interested in going down THAT path right now.

Risks Involve Growth

While researching this post, I came across a speech that Denzel Washington made at a college graduation a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM-MqsWjQd4. Wow, Denzel is an excellent speaker and quite a thought provoker. He said, “In order to truly live your life, you need to take chances (risks), and inevitably, you will fail. Each failure will teach you something; keep going.”

Denzel tells the story of his very first audition. It was for a musical, and he couldn’t sing. He didn’t get the part. In 2010, he starred in the play, Fences. It was at the Court Theatre on Broadway, where he had his first failed audition 30 years prior! It earned him a Tony Award. Thank goodness he kept going.

Washington’s commencement speech holds tidbits of wisdom. I have watched it five times since I first found it, and I heard something else I needed to listen to each time. I encourage you to take ten minutes, click the link above, and listen to his speech.

Don’t aspire to make a living. Aspire to make a difference.

I also encourage you to take some risks. Jumping out of an airplane is not one of them. I am an advocate of baby steps. Bangs are all the rage these days; why not get a new haircut with bangs? Here are a few more risk suggestions you can take that are not too crazy:

  • Introduce yourself to a neighbor and invite them for coffee
  • Sign-up for a class at your local library
  • Call an old friend and reconnect
  • Wear something fuchsia
  • Listen to the next “head hunter” that calls and go on an interview
  • Take a stab at karaoke

More Fuchsia for Me

You’ll need to get a bit outside of yourself if you’d like to change the course of your life. Everything I do these days is centered around living a better life. My motivation today definitely comes from having been diagnosed with breast cancer. Please do not wait for a tragedy to impact you before focusing on a better life. Just do it now while you can.
