We are so enjoying God’s symphony in our new home this spring! Have you ever heard of spring being referred to as God’s symphony?
Almost twenty years ago, my husband and I lived in a suburb of Chicago. Born and raised in New Yorkers (Queens & Westchester), I was recruited for a sales management position there, and my husband had just become a victim of bank consolidation.
As newlyweds, the timing was right, so we took a chance and started our married lives in the mid-west. We truly loved it and made it our home for ten years. While there, we became members of a church called St. Petronille’s in Glen Ellyn, IL. It was a lovely town 24-miles west of downtown Chicago.
Every Spring, I am reminded of a sermon I heard from one of the Parish priests of “St. Pets,” as everyone fondly called it. The priest spoke about Springtime and how he viewed this season as God’s symphony. He said the music starts slowly as all the trees and flowers begin to grow and bud, and then it explodes with a final crescendo once the flowers and trees are in full bloom. I fell in love with this analogy!
There’s been a transformation on Long Island these past few weeks (where we currently reside). I’ve seen lots of green buds on the trees, and the forsythia bushes are already dotting the highway with bright yellow flowers.
Many people have been complaining about the rain recently but not me. I know it helps the flowers and blooms “explode.” I am so looking forward to the final crescendo!
Do you have a favorite spot where you like to watch the flowers bloom? Centennial Gardens in Floral Park (free to the public) is impressive and worth looking at. There are lots of plants, trees, and flowers to explore and benches to sit on and read a book or take a rest. Bird lovers are known to frequent this spot too as it attracts all sorts of species of our flying friends. You can find info here: https://fpvillage.org/centennial-gardens/
On the personal side, it has been very fun for us to see what the landscaping is at our new home. We purchased this house in Bethpage on January 31, 2019. We originally toured it in the dead of winter. No sign of anything green at all.
It’s April and a few daffodils and tulips have already made their appearance. There are some other sprouts in the front garden that have popped up – I wonder what they will be? In the meantime, we just bought a bunch of plants that we will be potting and putting on the deck in our backyard.
We need some color in our backyard. As far as we can tell, there’s only grass behind the house. We need to do a bunch of landscaping and add colorful plants back there. I am excited to make the yard our own!
